Skype is more and more used here, but it has not those 'social' features that Adium or Yahoo Messenger (for Windows) have, like photo sharing, access to facebook chat, the creation of personalized smileys (I can't live without). This is why I can't wait to see how version 8.0 with audio and video support performs. but I still think it is better integrated with MSN protocol. Sure probably the current Microsoft Messenger version (7.x) is not written in cocoa and so on, it has no audio/video support for personal chats etc. This is frustrating, but this doesn't happen when I use Microsoft Messenger for MAC. This comment was edited by LanceFu on Decem01:27Īs far as Italy is concerned I can confirm that MSN MESSENGER is the most used application in here.Īs most of the MAC users I have Adium but I must say that there are parts of the program that I dislike, like the slow-speed rate during file transfer. This comment was edited by LanceFu on Decem01:11 1 IM service in Canada, how about you provide some source too? Simply say you don't believe it doesn't sound very "academic" to me. If Potcaster, you're so sure that it's not the no. I've been searching for a while, and couldn't find any. I have to say I have no idea how reliable this source is, and the data is from 2008, but here you go:ĮDIT: Alright, it seems that the data is simply a head count of the service usage through a IM client that I've never heard of.

Main reason is that Adium supports offline messaging, the official one does not. I keep recommending it over the official client to all my friends. The current official MSN Messenger on Mac is not really usable though, Adium is a much better alternative.

I will have no choice but to boot up my PC laptop only to use this function on Windows every time I'd like to talk to my family. The lack of A/V support is a big problem ever since I bought my iMac. Also, my family and friends in east Asia are all using it.

I live in Canada, most people I know are using MSN Messenger. I cringe when I see people use MSN Messenger on their Macs in the library and in class.

“I'm glad to say that the upcoming release of Windows Live Messenger, currently in beta, delivers the new A/V protocol that enables us to deliver A/V support in Messenger for Mac. We are now on the path to implement A/V support in the personal service (which will work with Windows Live service), and uses the same protocol as the corporate service.” “This year we successfully delivered Audio and Video (A/V) support in the corporate service (works with Office Communications Server) of Messenger for Mac 7. “I wanted to take a moment and share with you the progress we are making with Messenger for Mac,” writes Anav, of the Mac Mojo team.
